It’s time to pull the taps out of the trees, but I wanted to share with you my last harvest to impress on you the simplicity in the process.

I discovered that I could create my own syrup several years ago from the silver maples that I have in my yard, so I did a little research, ordered some taps, created a collection system that works pretty well for me and have been enjoying the most delicious homemade syrup ever since! I’m always excited to learn & grow in these efforts, but I think it’s a valuable investment of time & energy to always be learning new life skills with whatever resources we have.

Take a look at the trees you have in your yard or neighborhood (I live in Iowa) and explore the possibilities for your own tapping adventures next winter.

This is also something to consider when you are selecting trees to plant in your yard. 🙂 I am a huge advocate for edible landscaping. The reward of producing our own food is beyond measure..for me personally, it makes my heart so incredibly happy, keeps me connected to nature, and life just feels HEALTHIER & BETTER overall!
